If the Queen is, er, Queen of Co-ords, then Solange Knowles is surely Princess of the Printed Two-Piece!
Beyoncé's super-stylish younger sister has been busting out a series of serious matchy-matchy co-ords of late, and we're loving her work.
It's no secret that the musician, mother, model and DJ (phew!) has a penchant for print which she colour clashes with aplomb. It clearly isn't just music she can mix. Printed two-pieces are her trademark look - but it's almost as though she's become addicted to pattern.
To be fair, whenever Solange attempts to tone things down with single, neutral shades, she just looks odd. A little bit naked. And she seems to lose her sense of sartorial supremity.
Take, for example, her sheer Stéphane Rolland dress at Cannes Film Festival last week. It was a pretty enough, but just looked a bit, well, dull on our Solange. This was then followed up by a white jumpsuit a few days later. Again, it was a nice piece but Solange looked like a watered down version of herself.
The thing is, punchy prints and colourful co-ords have become Solange's signature look, and we can learn a lot from the way she works them:
MICRO TREND: MATCHING YOUR LIPS AND TIPS
Taking Solange as our style cue, here are our top tips on how to wear printed two-pieces:
• Match up your prints top and bottom to streamline your look
• Be bold with your shoes and bag, too but pick out a colour from the print and tone in accordingly
• By the same token, don't be afraid to add a colour pop of bright lipstick and matching nails to offset the look - but keep the rest of your makeup low-key to avoid looking like Krusty the Clown
• However, your other accessories should be very minimal - if any at all - try just a few fine gold rings
• Break up the expanse of pattern with a flash of flesh - by wearing open-toe sandals, for example, or with a deep V-neckline on your top half.
• Finally, carry yourself with confidence! If you go for such a strong style statement, you're sure to be looked at!
